ECO FRIENDLY EXTINGUISH IS 100% FLUORINE FREE
PFAS are fluorine-containing substances that can be found in many everyday products such as cookware, textiles and paper and in regular fire-fighting foams.
With the further development of analysis techniques, PFAS have become conspicuous in recent years. PFAS are persistent, accumulate in living things and can have harmful consequences for humans, animals and the environment. It is now clearly known that some substances in the PFAS group are carcinogenic and suspected of being endocrine disrupting. The Federal Environment Agency classifies PFAS as alarming.
PFAS ARE CONSIDERED TO BE OF CONCERN
Once PFAS get into nature and seep into the groundwater, their spread can hardly be stopped. They can hardly be filtered by sewage treatment plants. They accumulate in the human body via drinking water and the food chain. PFAS have even been detected in the blood of polar bears, which live in the almost untouched Arctic nature.
AVOID UNNECESSARY RELEASE OF PFAS
It is therefore all the more urgent when fighting fires to avoid the unnecessary release of fluorine surfactants and to use alternative extinguishing agents. In the recent past, fluorine-containing extinguishing agents, which were deployed in large quantities, have repeatedly led to partly avoidable environmental damage and the associated high disposal and sanitation costs. Such costs may even exceed the cost of the actual fire damage.
PFAS DO NOT BELONG IN DRINKING WATER
Ultimately, it is irrelevant whether PFAS get into drinking water or the food chain through rainproof clothing, coffee-to-go cups, dirt-repellent carpets or extinguishing agents. They don’t belong there.
FOR OUR CHILDREN: ACT NOW
It is up to all of us to leave our children a clean planet. Everyone can contribute a part. As firefighters, we should follow the recommendation of the Federal Environment Agency to only use fluorine-containing extinguishing foams if there is no effective alternative.
In the end, it’s about saving human lives, but also about extinguishing an incipient fire quickly and effectively in order to avert major environmental damage. Against this background, the extinguishing agent must be evaluated.
USE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY EXTINGUISHING AGENTS – WITHOUT FLUORINE
Dealing responsibly with nature determines our actions. Against this background, we have further developed our products in recent years and today we offer a large portfolio of environmentally friendly fire extinguishers including fluorine-free foam extinguishing agent.
We are happy to help. Our specially developed environmentally friendly solutions and alternatives to fluorine-containing foam extinguishing agents can be found here.
Definition PFAS or PFC |
The term PFAS stands for per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances. In German-speaking countries, PFC is also often mentioned. But both terms mean the same thing. |
